１９９８年亚太经合组织（ＡＰＥＣ）吉隆坡会议是在东亚金融危机扩大和深化的背景下召开的。会议主要讨论化解与防范金融危机以促进亚太经济增长、贸易投资自由化及经济技术合作等问题。尽管本届会议在部门自愿提前自由化问题上出现分歧，但在化解和防范金融危机及加强经济技术合作上取得共识或一定的突破。会议对促进东亚地区经济复苏与发展将产生重要影响
The 1998 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Kuala Lumpur Conference was held in the context of the expansion and deepening of the East Asian financial crisis. The meeting mainly discussed the issues of resolving and guarding against the financial crisis so as to promote economic growth in the Asia Pacific region, trade and investment liberalization, and economic and technological cooperation. Although this meeting has divided on the issue of voluntariness and premature liberalization of the sector, it has reached consensus or certain breakthroughs in resolving and preventing the financial crisis and in strengthening economic and technological cooperation. The meeting will have a significant impact on promoting economic recovery and development in East Asia
