Objective To investigate the relationship between local cerebral glucose metabolism and cerebral infarction. Methods We compared the low density lesions seen in the head CT in 2 patients with cerebral infarction with cerebral oxo-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-FDG PET imaging). Results The decrease of local cerebral glucose metabolism was associated with clinical symptoms and signs. The local brain glucose metabolism decreased less than that of CT. Conclusion Positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET imaging) can provide a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of ischemic cerebrovascular disease, which is more clinically relevant than the head CT lesions.
