The frequent exchanges between scholars and the extensive and complicated social networks formed between them, as well as the flourishing culture based on them, are the prominent features of the two Song Dynasties. The ways and means of maintaining and safeguarding the social networks of scholars are different from those of the past. When the Northern Song dynasty allowed officials to send private books, it undoubtedly has epoch-making significance. Since then, exchanges between scholars formed a new style. In the private sector of scholars, the Song Dynasty also has a further system of protection than the previous generation, that is, all the homes of the officials can enter the station. But in fact, there are not too many private officials into the station lodging, but more common in shops and Buddhist temple. On the one hand, it is related to the limitations of the post installation, on the other hand, the private background related to the collection of the circulation tax and the development of the stores, and Buddhism’s influence on the social life. The appearance of personal communications and visits by scholars in the Song Dynasty should be the result of social changes in the Tang and Song Dynasties.
