This article describes the preparation and performance of Mn-activated DC electroluminescent powder (dcEL) for flat-panel television displays. The burning process, the copper clad process and the formation process were studied. Powder phosphors suitable for displays contain 0.1-0.5% Mn and 0.25-0.35% Cu (weight ratio), which is coated on the surface of the powder. Although the luminous efficiency of powder dcELs is still low to this day, it can be used with a high peak power voltage pulse excitation. The cross-talk effect of the display can also be depressed because the brightness varies strongly with voltage.
