Nel is the heroine in “Call” of the female writer Colleen McCullough. Although her weight is not much in her novels, her history of women’s struggle has become a worthwhile pratice. This article uses Freud psychoanalysis to analyze Neer ’s “Love Father ” complex and the trapped gender predicament, and analyzes her suspicion of the patriarchal society toward the consciously pursuing the thorny process of women’ s discourse of freedom. With her unique female perspective, the author shows the rise of the women’s liberation movement in the mainland of Australia in the late nineteenth century and the difficult course of women’s struggle against patriarchal society.
