In his portrait of Dorian Gray, Doll’s initial obsession and possession of portraits embodied his narcissism; then, even his painting was full of fear because the portrait turned into a harbinger of the death of Dodger. According to Freud’s “Theory of Fear,” the portraits that act as portraits are exactly the same. The interpretation of the work from the “complex” relationship between the portrait and the poem clearly reveals the whole process of Dow Jones’ step by step and eventually death.
