In a conversation with Howells, Emerson said Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was The Jingle Man. This greatly debase Allan Poe’s achievements in poetry and his position in American literature. We know that both Emerson and Allan Poe are great poets in 19th-century romantic literature in the United States. However, their creative guiding ideology is not exactly the same. Allan Poe opposes “preaching” poetry. He believes that poetry can neither be used to teach people, nor can it be used to exhort people. Instead, it should influence people through its own reality and beauty, and cultivate human nature with its true feelings. Instead, Emerson sees his poetry as a medium for spreading truth. He opposed Alen Poe’s aestheticism
