《人性的污点》作为菲利普.罗思的后美国三部曲中的最后一部,讲述了一个为追求其美国梦而将自己的黑人身份逾越为白种犹太人,最后却为社会所流放,陷入了身份悖论中的悲剧故事。在小说中,罗思充分运用了象征主义手法,采用多个意象,甚至模仿了古希腊悲剧的结构,表现了身份逾越的悲剧。而隐藏于全文中最主要的一个特点就是以圣经为原型的流放模式,罗思将“流放”贯穿到主人公科尔曼的族裔身份、社会身份以及心灵深处,突出而生动地表现了作者对美国社会的身份观:身份逾越不可能带来美国梦的实现,注定是个悲剧。本文笔者从流放传统入手,结合罗思的创作特点与其历史语境,分析文本,看罗思贯穿在文本中的身份观。
