Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of sub-health assessment scale (SHMS V1.0) applied to measuring the sub-health status of the Cenozoic migrant workers in the Pearl River Delta. Methods Regional stratified sampling was used to investigate the new generation of migrant workers in seven prefecture-level cities in the Pearl River Delta. The survey included the general situation, lifestyle and experience of the respondents, the sub-health rating scale (SHMS V1.0), and Health-related quality of life measuring scale SF-36 (SF-36). The reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated by using the confidence score of half reliability and the internal consistency reliability, and the validity of the questionnaire was evaluated by structure validity, validity of validity criterion and responsivity of questionnaire. Results A total of 1 500 questionnaires were distributed and 1 238 valid questionnaires were recovered. The effective recovery rate was 82.53%. The survey included 530 males (42.8%), married persons with a marital status of 807 (65.2%), and 562 (45.4%) students with junior high school education and below. The Cronbach’α coefficient of SHMS V1.0 is 0.923; the half reliability is 0.855. The correlation coefficient between each dimension and its sub-scale ranged from 0.520 to 0.890, the correlation was larger and the correlation coefficient with other subscales was smaller. The maximum variance rotation method, the results of the extraction of the seven principal components, the cumulative contribution rate of 63.576%, each item in which one of the factors have a higher load value, ranging between 0.588 ~ 0.886, among the other six factors The load value is lower. The correlation coefficient between SHMS V1.0 total score and SF-36 total score was 0.750 (P <0.01). The ceiling / floor effect shows that the SHMS V 1.0 physical, psychological and social sub-scales and the highest scale of the total scale between 0.08 to 3.23, the lowest score between 0.08 and 0.72, the highest score and the lowest Sub-proportion of small, suggesting that the scale better responsiveness with a more responsive degree. Conclusion The application of SHMSV 1.0 to evaluate the sub-health status of the new generation of peasant workers in Pearl River Delta is reliable, effective and sensitive.
