“五四”儿童文学的发生与中国的现代转型密切相关,在“儿童的发现”归并于“人的文学”的主潮的同时,亟待将“儿童文学的发现”纳入中国现代文学体系之中予以观照和审思,以凸显其本有的价值。在接受外国儿童文学资源时,“为儿童”还是“为成人”混杂特性影响现代知识分子的译介动机及运思方式。由于无法融通儿童“自然性”与“社会性”的张力关系,儿童文学先驱陷入了思想性与艺术性的两难境地中,基于本土文化的立场,他们对外国资源进行了“中国式”的接受。传统资源与外国资源互为他者,世界性与民族性的冲突与互动被纳入到儿童话语与成人话语的动态结构之中,制导着五四儿童文学接受西方儿童文学资源的出发点、方式及策略,也影响着“五四”儿童文学化用中国古典儿童文化遗产所持的标准、尺度和原则。
