Kobe, Japan Public Road Co., Ltd. completed a two-lane highway, a total length of 8.9km. The NuNobiki highway tunnel (2.7km in total length) crosses the weathered granite formation at the bottom of the Kobe tunnel of the Shinkansen high-speed line of Japan at a cross angle of 50 °. The distance between two tunnels is 15.5m. The construction requirement for this intersection is that the allowed subsidence of the upper railroad tunnel is 3 mm. In order to meet this demand, Professor Saku Murayama, an honorary professor at Kyoto University in Japan, proposed the “Rock Freezing Method”, which is to excavate the tunnel under the protection of a frozen rock roof. This method is the tunnel project
