旅居美国近20年的著名电影演员龚雪一身素雅淡装，在欢送她回国定居的宴会上轻口轻语：“我回家了。”
9月中旬，正是美国纽英格伦华丽的金秋，大地蔓延着簇簇红叶，向人们展示了绚丽多姿的秋景。全美中国作家联谊会、《纽约商务》杂志、东南康州华人协会和辉瑞药业公司的华人科学家们，欢聚在康州海默顿的东王朝饭店，设宴欢送龚雪回国定居。龚雪的好友、全美中国作家联谊会秘书长王枫，早在上周就开始布置宴会、确定嘉宾和菜单，她以一种隆重的方式来欢送自己亲密的朋友“回家”。或许“回家”两字对旅居海外的游子来说更有一番含意，重有一字千钧，以至于龚雪“我回家了”刚脱口而出，华海药业(美国)公司副总裁王海的夫人曹红月女士不禁泪涌。
曾创造中国电影的神话
20世纪80年代初期，龚雪创造了中国电影的神话。她在《石榴花》《快乐的单身汉》《大桥下面》等一系列电影中所塑造的完美高洁的银幕形象，成为那个时代电影观众的精神偶像，甚至是“梦中情人”。时隔20年后的今天，仍不乏影迷向她表达崇敬之情，最近龚雪还收到一位旅美影迷写给她的抒情诗。当王枫在宴会上朗读这首诗时，举座感慨不已。是的，龚雪成了清纯、善良、温柔、高洁的“符号”，画在了几代电影观众的心中，特别在物欲横流的今天，龚雪“符号”更显示出强大的人格魅力。

这期间龚雪随先生张迅先在美国南部德州生活了两年，张迅取得博士学位后，全家搬到纽约，两年后再搬到新泽西州，最后全家搬到了康州定居至今。张迅在东南康州的辉瑞药业公司担任高级职员，收入稳定，他们在长岛海峡北岸买了一幢房子，龚雪在相夫教女之余，把这幢白色房屋和周围的草地庭院装饰得清雅不失艳丽，温馨又显高贵，布局和谐，搭配协调，一窗一墙都有讲究，成了鲜花的世界，艺术的殿堂，更是龚雪的“白宫”。我在主编《东方》杂志时，曾经和龚雪张迅夫妇谈好开设一个“龚雪情调”栏目，张迅是一位具有专业水平的业余摄影家，由他拍摄照片发给《东方》。后因故没有办成，现在却将这段约稿续上了。最近我创办的《纽约商务》杂志将开设“龚雪时尚”栏目，向读者们展示龚雪的情调和品位，展示龚雪的修养和精神。

我与龚雪张迅夫妇的交往，虽有年月却不经常，而且多在聚会和宴会上。在聚会时，龚雪经常是轻声细语与朋友聊天，或者静静坐在沙发上，非常投入地看书；张迅则在一旁自饮自品，像专业鉴定师一样喝着葡萄酒，旁若无人地沉醉着，“酒仙”的神态相当生动。记得一次在黄乐群教授家举办的聚会上，龚雪坐在沙发上读着我新出版的《冰凌幽默小说选》，竟一连读完三个中篇，随后向大家描述每个中篇的故事情节，这种阅读记忆和专业功力让我吃惊和敬佩。
敞开心扉说“回家”
欢笑过后，我便“公事公办”开始采访。我向龚雪提出了一系列读者感兴趣的问题，龚雪一一作了回答，特别对自己为什么选择“回家”作了正面的回答：龚雪说事业和生活都有个阶段性，我在追求事业的同时，非常向往有一个美满的家庭生活。我觉得对一个女人来说，美满的家庭生活很重要，当我的事业达到高峰阶段，我觉得我完成了事业阶段的追求，于是我就选择了家庭生活。结了婚，生了女儿，我过了19年很知足的家庭生活。现在我的女儿也上大学去了，我又可以开始另一个新阶段的生活了，我想我自己该做一些喜欢做的事了。
龚雪为了女儿的成长，在家陪伴女儿，曾经推掉很多电影的片约。那么现在回到上海定居，龚雪有没有可能重返影视圈呢？或者到电视台主持节目等等。龚雪说，最主要看有没有我合适的角色。没有合适的角色我不会去演出，我可能也不太适合去当主持人，我以后会做一些自己喜欢的事。现在只是想回家，实际上我虽然住在美国，可我每年都回上海，对家乡心里总有一种不了情。
龚雪“回家”实际上是对生活的一种选择，是一种生活的态度。我想，一味追求事业甚至终身追求事业固然可敬，但是在追求事业的同时也享有美满的家庭生活，应该说是一种更具人性、更加完满的生活。龚雪的艺术本色与生活本色高度一致，无论做明星还是做平民，她都同样陶醉和享受。她的心态、品德、品位和修养，使她辉煌而不忘形，宁静而不寂寞，理性而又知足，她是一个进入大境界的女人。

Gong Xue has come back to settle down in Shanghai, after living in USA for nearly 2 decades.
The young generations of film fans may not even know the name, but in the early 1980s, Gong was a star that made history on China’s silver screen. Her perfect silver-screen interpretation of her roles as ingenuous girls made her the national idol. In 1984 she was awarded the best actress title in both Golden Rooster Award and Hundred Flowers Award, the highest honor in the country’s movie industry, unanimously acknowledged by both film fans and experts.
However, at the height of her career, Gong Xue migrated to a quiet life in America in 1986. When the report that she married Zhang Xun in America broke out in the news media across the country, Zhang Xun suddenly found himself the number one enemy of many fans.
The fans have wanted to find out what kind of life Gong Xue was leading in America, but the woman kept a pretty low profile and not a word about her has ever been reported in the media in China.
During the 20 years, she and her husband first lived in Texas for about 2 years. After Zhang earned the Doctor’s degree, they lived in to New York for two years and then moved to New Jersey. Then they settled down in Connecticut where Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Limited, world’s largest pharmaceutical company, is located and her husband worked as a senior employee. They bought a house on the northern bank of Long Island Sound. For ten years when they lived in Connecticut, the house grew into a perfect garden.
Gong Xue lived quietly as a good wife to her husband and good mother to her daughter. According to herself, she had everything a woman can desire for. Now, Zhang Xun comes back to China and works as deputy general manager for Hutchison-Whampoa pharmaceuticals and their daughter is in Rhoda Island School of Design. The family sold their house and cars and moved back to Shanghai.
The ten years in Connecticut saw Gong Xue make a lot of female friends. Before they left for Shanghai, their friends threw a farewell banquet. At the party, they praised Gong as a beautiful and capable homemaker. She once helped a friend to rearrange pieces of furniture at home, which the friend had failed to set right for three years. During a visit to the home of a friend, she found a blank wall in need of some adornment. So she made a folding fan and put it there. And she was a perfect cook. Some of her best dishes are an everlasting topic of her friends.
After the party, I had a formal interview with Gong Xue. When it came to her life, she commented that when she was pursuing the acting career, she did not forget to seek a perfect family life. Life and career were two separate things for her. She said that for a woman, a perfect marriage and family were important. After she was successful as a film star, she felt she had completed the career and she wanted to pursue a perfect family life. Now with her daughter in college, she preferred to start a new phase of her life. She believed she would begin to do something she liked. To spend more time with the daughter, she declined many offers for roles in movies over years. Would it be possible for her to restart the film career or work as a TV program hostess after she settled down in Shanghai? It would depend on whether the roles were suitable. She doubted she could be fit for hosting a television program. She just wanted to be home again and do things she liked to do. In fact, she has been making her annual home visit to Shanghai every year since she got married in USA.
Gong’s comeback to Shanghai is actually an attitude toward life and her choice of the life she wants.Understanding it is admirable for someone to pursue a lifelong career and it is equally admirable for someone to pursue a happy family life, I can see her career and family life are identical. A star or not, she enjoys her life. Her attitude, virtue, grace, and quality have made her remember who she was when she was on the top of the world, and made her contented with life when she lives a quiet and intelligent life. She is a woman of her own category.
