Market and ethics are not incompatible. At present, China’s moral anomie is in fact closely linked with the profound transformation of Chinese society. Over the past 30 years, while pushing forward the outdated old rules, the 30 years of reform have failed to establish new rules soon. As a result, the entire society has neither old nor new norms for a long period of time State, thus inducing the expansion of desire by the heart of the people. This in turn makes the original meaning of the market rules were introduced into social life and interpersonal relationships, derived from the pan-market society. Therefore, the understanding of the moral predicament is essentially the understanding of the social contents contained in the moral predicament. Only by grasping this background can we have a deeper understanding of the reasons and significance of re-emphasizing “virtue governance” and its deep relationship with deepening reforms.
