清代首任台湾巡抚刘铭传主持兴建了台湾第一条铁路干线,北起基隆,南止高雄,全长408.5公里。于1887年6月动工,1908年4月竣工通车,命名为“纵贯线”。此间台湾修筑的各条铁路,凡是与“纵贯线”接轨的均称之为铁路支线。1945年,台湾修筑了依山傍海、地势险要的“北回线”和风光秀丽的“南回线”。1997年6月,“环岛铁路”干线完工。同时也给铁路支线的内涵拓展了新的空间。
Liu Ming Chuan, the first governor of Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty, presided over the construction of Taiwan’s first railway line, starting from Keelung in the north and Kaohsiung to the south in a total length of 408.5 kilometers. Started in June 1887, completed and opened to traffic in April 1908, named as “vertical line”. During the construction of Taiwan’s railway line here, all the “vertical line” is called the rail extension. In 1945, Taiwan built a mountainous area near the sea, where the terrible “Northern Line” and the beautiful “South Line” were located. June 1997, “Central Island Railway” trunk completed. At the same time, the connotation of the railway extension also opens up new space.
