铬钼钢是制造高温高压容器的典型钢种之一。在高温高压条件下长期操作的铬钼钢,会回火脆化和缺口韧性下降。回火脆化是材料在375~575℃范围内出现的一种现象,而该温度范围正是炼厂容器操作的温度区域。因此,为操作安全起见,最近对焊接材料的抗回火脆化能力和低温韧性的要求,也越来越高了。此外,为了提高炼厂设备的可靠性,以及对煤液化设备的考虑,现在正在寻求高温高压下有更高强度的材料。对这类高强度的材料,也同样要求有优良的低温韧性。
