Reported 89 cases of gastric cancer discovered during the six-year survey of Kumamoto Prefecture in the mid-Japan from 1967 to 1972. There were more than 100,000 census subjects and they were compared with outpatients with gastric cancer. The conclusion is that in the age distribution, the census group was 10 years younger than the outpatient group, and most of them occurred between the ages of 40 and 59. In the census group, there were more uplift cases in the early stage gastric cancer than in the outpatient group, with the former being 33.4% and the latter being 23.1%. For the classification of progressive gastric cancer, there are more approximate findings in the census group that cannot be included in the Borrmann’s classification.
