The national theme in poetry has always been an irresistible issue for Irish poets. The nationality in Paul Mulden’s poetry is closely related to the Northern Ireland peace process. The nationality of the poets in the 1960s and 1970s was most strongly manifested in the nationality, marking the imprint of the times directly and inevitably. Since the nineties, the poet has jumped out of the narrow nationalism and language barrier, seeking self identity and national destiny in a broader perspective. Especially after the immigration to the United States in the mid-to-late 1980s, though Paul Mardon’s poetry expressed his thoughts on his hometown and its national identity, he could handle the nationality problem in his poems with a detached mind.
