The principle of duality, defined by Muriel Spark as the “core of the mode of thinking,” runs through the history of his literary creation. The accurate interpretation of this principle is an important premise to reveal the unique creation thought of Spark. With the two-sided creative thinking as the research object, this paper explores the inner relationship between Edinburgh, the birthplace of Spark, and Catholicism, which is the birthplace of Spark, and this thought, trying to uncover the core connotation of “two sides ”. And points out that this creative thinking has obvious characteristics of postmodernism and embodies Spark’s attempt to deviate from traditional realism writing.
