Tumor angiogenesis is crucial for tumorigenesis and development. Therefore, the study of tumor angiogenesis is of great significance. Maniotis et al. Proposed a new model of tumor angiogenesis, mimic angiogenesis. They used the method of CD34-PAS double staining to distinguish between mimic vessels and traditional tumor vessels. Molecular regulation of mimicry angiogenesis involves many aberrant expression of genes associated with endothelial cells and hematopoietic stem cell phenotypes. The current study suggests that the tumor with high degree of malignancy only mimic vascular, so its research can better guide the clinical treatment and prognosis. There is still much debate in the oncology community about the phenomenon of mimicry angiogenesis, with the focus on whether mimicry blood vessels are an illusion or not and the reliable methods for their identification. The phenomenon of mimic angiogenesis poses a challenge to the treatment strategy of traditional tumor vessels at present, which may become a new target for the treatment of highly malignant tumors in the future.
