Objectives. To assess the clinical efficacy of mifepristone 100mg followed two days later by misoprostol 400μg orally in women undergoing medical termination of pregnancy up to 56 days gestational age. Materials and methods. Retrospectiv e study over 8.5 months of 762 cases early medical abortion, 100 mg mifepristone was used on day 1 after clinic visit and vaginal ultrasonography. Misoprostol 4 00μg was administered orally on day 3. Following administration of prostaglandi n, women were observed in the ward for 4 hours, A control visit on day 15 was sy stematic. Success was defined as a complete uterine evacuation without the need for surgical intervention, Results. Medical terminations accounted or 42%of all abortions, 16%of women were pregnant for < 42 days, 76%for 43 to 49 days and 8%for 50 to 56 days. Termination occurred within 4 hours after administration o f misoprostol in 80.2%of the women. Only one woman aborted within 48 hours of m ifepristone administration only. The success rate in this study was 94.4%and th e failure rate increased with the gestational age. Pain was the predominant side effect. Six cases of bleeding required a surgical intervention. No patient re quired transfusion. 96%of patients attended a control visit on day 15. The ac ceptability rate of the method has been 94%. Conclusion. Mifepristone 100mg fol lowed two days later by misoprostol 400μg orally is safe and effective for earl y termination of pregnancy. Depressive syndromes during pregnancy: Prevalence and risk factors (Fren) $$$$ Lteif Y./Kesrouani A./RichaS. [Y. Lteif, Achrafieh, PO Box: 165251, Beyrouth 1 100, Lebanon] Objectives. To study the prevalence of depression during pregnancy and its ass ociated risk factors in Lebanese women. Materials and methods. A prospective ran domized study was conducted on a sample of 79 women consulting the gynecology ou tpatient department of Hotel-Dieu de France in Beirut, Lebanon who completed th e Beck depression inventory as well as a 45 multiple choice questionnaire coveri ng known risk factors implicated in depression during pregnancy. Adenosarcoma of the uterus: A case report (Fren) $$$$ Fatnassi R./Amri F. [R. Fatnassi, Maternitópital Ibn e, H.Jazzar, 3140 Kairou an, Tunisia] Adenosarcoma of the uterus has two components: a benign epithelial proliferati on and a stromal sarcoma. The purpose of this work was to report the clinical as pects and therapeutic modalities of an exceptional case of uterine adenosarcoma in a 15-year-old girl revealed by pelvic pain. Physical examination disclosed a polypoid formation protruding through the hymenal orifice. Histology of the ma ss confirmed the diagnosis of adenosarcoma of the uterus. The patient underwent hysterectomy and was given chemotherapy. This rare tumor (8%of uterine sarcomas ) generally requires hysterectomy. Prognosis is relatively favorable.
