Since the advent of lasers, the use of lasers to excite atoms and molecules and thereby ionize them has become an important method and tool for studying atomic and molecular structures and their interactions. In this paper, we use dye laser to excite potassium vapor and observe the ionization spectrum of potassium atom. We found three ionization mechanisms of potassium atom: 4S-6S two-photon resonance three-photon ionization, 4S-4D two photon resonance three-photon ionization and energy accumulation.
