赵州桥原名安济桥,建于隋朝大业初年(公元605年),是现存世界上最古老的一座石拱桥。它是隋朝一位普通工匠李春设计营建的,位于河北省赵县(隋时叫赵州)城南5里的洨河上。桥身长50.82米,高7.23米,桥两端9.6米,中部宽9.0米,主拱券跨度为37.45米,是当时世界上跨度最大的石拱桥,比欧洲第一座拱桥——法国泰克河上的赛雷桥早700多年。在漫长的岁月中,这座桥经历了风雨洪水的侵蚀,八次以上强烈地震的袭击,1300多年使用的考验,至今仍巍然横跨在洨河上,安然无恙。其原因是:
Formerly known as Anji Bridge, Zhaozhou Bridge was built in the early years of the Sui Dynasty (AD 605) and is the oldest stone arch bridge in the world. It was designed and built by Li Chun, an ordinary craftsman in the Sui Dynasty. It is located on the Weihe River, 5 miles south of Zhao County, Hebei Province. With a length of 50.82 meters and a height of 7.23 meters, the bridge is 9.6 meters at the ends, 9.0 meters in the middle, and 37.45 meters in the span of the main arch.
