Japan has launched experimental medium-sized broadcast satellites (BS) and first-generation practical broadcast satellites (BS-2), and is currently developing a second-generation practical broadcast satellite (BS-3). The BS was developed in 1973. It was launched on the 8th, April 1978, with the American Delta 2124 rocket, and stopped working on the relay for two years after June 17, 1980 (the original design life was three years). The BS-2 was developed since 1980. On January 23, 1984, the BS-2a was launched with the Japanese N rocket, and BS-2b is scheduled to be launched on August 15 this year. The design life of these two stars is five years.
