在造纸过程中,微生物会引起许多问题,未加控制的微生物的滋生会降低纸机运行性能及产品质量;产生的污泥会导致纸页孔洞、湿部断头,以及添加剂、涂料或者纸浆的腐坏,因而生物杀灭剂被广泛应用。但是出于安全和环境因素,总的趋势是减少有毒化学品的使用量,尤其是在欧洲。这促进了低毒微生物控制系统/方法的发展。一个现代的微生物控制体系应该将整个造纸生产过程纳入控制范围,这涉及到沉积控制、添加剂及涂料防腐、气味控制,有时也包括针眼/孔洞控制。借助监控工具,使得在获得最大的投资回报率、对环境冲击最小的情况下,用不同的有毒的和无毒的化学品控制微生物,以及选择最佳微生物控制系统成为可能。
Microbes cause many problems during the papermaking process.
