Objective To investigate the distribution of atrial natriuretic peptide in human eye tissue and its relationship with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Methods Radioimmunoassay was used to determine atrial natriuretic peptide in 21 patients with corneal hypofunction, vitreous and 10 senile cataract patients and 21 patients with primary angle closure glaucoma. Results There was atrial natriuretic peptide in aqueous humor, uveal tissue and vitreous tissue in normal subjects. The atrial natriuretic peptide in glaucoma patients was significantly higher than that in control group. Conclusion The abnormal changes of atrial natriuretic peptide in human aqueous humor may be an important link in the pathogenesis of primary angle-closure glaucoma
