目前,国家推出大学生到农村任职的政策后,越来越多的大学生深入农村就职,结合新农村的建设及计划,促进我国广大农村地区的发展。这是中央为加强后备力量的建设而实施的一个工程,也是解决大学生就业问题的需要。大学生村官将来会作为党的年轻干部进行培养。政府选拔年轻干部需要那些工作中经验丰富、有思想、有魄力的人,特别是在农村一线曾经工作过的年轻干部,选派一些实力比较强的大学生到农村基层锻炼,积累工作经验,在工作中接受考察、锻炼,可以为我国的新农村事业建设注入新鲜血液,为国家储备有用的后备干部。但是,大学生村官对于农村生活,村官工作以及在心理和文化上存在一定不适应性。
