汪原放,生于1897年,安徽绩溪城内人,他是我国第一个给古典小说标标点符号的人。他5岁丧父,读了7年书,13岁就进了叔父汪孟邹创办的芜湖科学图书社当学徒。16岁到上海协助汪孟邹开设东亚图书馆,从事中国古典文学整理和外国文学作品翻译工作。在整理古典文学中,他体会到,古代文学作品没有标点符号,给读者带来诸多不便,有时还会产生理解上的错误。于是,他决心做第一个“吃螃蟹”的人。经过多年的辛勤劳动,刻苦钻研,他先后出了《水 Wang Yuan Fang, born in 1897, is an insider of Jixi City, Anhui Province.
