赛珍珠小说中的男性形象蕴含着深刻而复杂的中西文化内涵 ,这一点迄今未得到学界应有的注意。本文以《大地》三部曲中的王虎为例 ,集中探讨这一人物形象的生活原型、它所体现的中西文化特征以及作者对它的态度。本文认为 ,王虎性格中浓厚的中国文化色彩来自《水浒传》和《三国演义》这两部中国古典文学名著 ,而就其出身经历、脾气秉性及生活习惯而言 ,又明显地以赛珍珠的父亲赛兆祥为原型。王虎是一个复杂多面的形象 ,作者既对他具有的中西方文化共同认可的优秀品质持肯定态度 ,同时也通过他批判了中国文化及当时社会生活中的一些丑陋方面
The male image in Pearl S. Buck’s novels contains profound and complicated Chinese and Western cultural connotations, which has not received due attention from the academic circles so far. This article takes Wang Hu in The Trilogy of the Earth as an example, focusing on the life prototype of this figure, the characteristics of Chinese and Western cultures it embodies, and the author’s attitude toward it. This paper argues that the strong Chinese culture in Wang Hu’s character comes from the two masterpieces of classical Chinese literature such as Outlaws of the Marsh and the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. However, in terms of his birth experience, temper, and lifestyle, The father of Siu Cheung prototype. Wang Hu is a complex and multi-faceted image. The author not only holds a positive attitude towards the outstanding qualities that he has both Chinese and Western cultures, but also criticizes some ugly aspects of Chinese culture and social life through him at the same time
