英语和汉语都拥有大量谚语,但西方人在现实生活中使用谚语的频率明显低于中国人,英语谚语主要被收录于词典或修辞著作中,在说理性文章中(如政论文、社论或讨论社会问题的文章等)却很少被提及。中英谚语使用频率的差异现象及其产生的原因值得我们做深入研究。本文将从中西文化对比的角度入手,对汉英谚语使用频率产生差异的文化理据进行尝试性的研究。本文力图证明:汉英谚语使用频率差异的原因深深扎根于本民族的文化土壤之中,是对本民族价值观念、思维方式的反映,中英两民族人民在心理文化上的差异,即价值观念的不同是导致现今汉英谚语使用频率不同的根源。
English and Chinese have a large number of proverbs, but Westerners use proverbs in real life at a significantly lower frequency than Chinese.
