光学显微镜下观察了５只兔眼巩膜腔内植入黄金空心球，５只兔眼植入铁心球，５只兔眼只做了眼内容物剜除术３０ｄ后的巩膜及巩膜腔内的变化．结果，金球组５只眼巩膜腔缩小，壁厚，腔内及巩膜壁中未见肉芽组织取代现象；铁球组５只眼巩膜腔缩小，巩膜腔内面有大量炎症细胞及肉芽肿性炎的表现，巩膜受损处也有大量炎症细胞浸润．只做眼内容物剜除术组５只眼正常巩膜组织结构已被破坏，巩膜腔内已有大量增生的肉芽组织充填取代空腔，肉芽组织及巩膜内有大量炎症细胞浸润，淋巴细胞为主，伴有中性粒细胞．
