20世纪上半叶,西学东渐。中国古典的书法美论面临着向现代书法美学的转变,开始用西方的知识范型重新整理和建构书法美学的问题,开始追求书法美学知识的明晰性、科学性、体系性。我们习惯把这种学术变迁称之为“转型”。此转型期间,出现了梁启超、张荫麟、宗白华、朱光潜、邓以蛰、林语堂、蒋彝等书法美学研究
In the first half of the twentieth century, Western learning began to spread eastward. Chinese classical calligraphic theory is facing the change from the modern calligraphic aesthetics, starting to reorganize and construct calligraphic aesthetics with the paradigm of western knowledge, and begin to pursue the clarity, science and systematicness of calligraphic aesthetic knowledge. We used to call this kind of academic change “transformational.” During this period of transition, there appeared calligraphic aesthetic studies such as Liang Qichao, Zhang Yinlin, Zong Baihua, Zhu Guangqian, Deng Yizhe, Lin Yutang and Jiang Yi
