Emergency Geostationary Operational Environment Satellite (GOES) Imager This study is based on the situation where one or more of the existing GOES satellites may require a small backup imager for weather observation in the event of a failure Carried out Emergency GOES Imager (EGI) is compact and lightweight. For the weather forecasting, the visible and infrared bands need the minimum resolution. The ground resolution of the infrared band of 10.2μm ~ 11.2μm is required to be 16km. The ground resolution of the visible band of 0.5μm ~ 0.7μm is required to be 4km. Due to the small size of the EGI (roughly 15 in × 15 in × 15 in, excluding the solar array) it may be installed on a separate transmitter or on a larger satellite as an ancillary payload . The overall size of the EGI will depend on the orientation of the satellite as it relates to the specific satellite orientation selected chiller and the amount of solar shielding required by the chiller. Although the EGI was designed for use as an emergency system, the technique it uses is up-to-date, in addition to using a line of infrared focal plane in front of a constantly moving mirror, a gaze-format visible light CCD array. For array manufacturers, assuming an NEDT of 0.1K, scaling of the infrared array can be a technical challenge. We discussed some of the tools that have been used to meet the emergency requirements for such a small, simple system, identified some of the constraints in the design, and explored some of the improvements that must be taken to extend these requirements.
