Researchers and practitioners conducted a joint research project at the University of Washington on a BIM and COBie pilot project. The study is part of a joint program of the COAA, buildingSMART alliance and the ERDC. In six case studies conducted by the National Association of Building Owners in 2012, the University of Washington Capital Projects Office is responsible for one of them, and university researchers are involved in change design and analysis. For the University of Washington, the Construction Operations COBie pilot project is part of a larger program of Capital Projects and Facility Services designed to provide information on maintenance and operation of facilities and operations (from design and construction to operation and maintenance) and owner-critical BIM models Create a quality delivery process. In this article, we introduce the preliminary findings of the pilot project. Including an analysis of existing practices and the way complex institutional owners (with more than 700 buildings) process and use data throughout operations and maintenance. While direct digital exchange may seem simple in principle, we found that if a set of construction data sets were to be embedded in large distributed organizations and information technology infrastructures, such as large university campuses, several complexities such as access, format, content, Time, relationships and user interface.
