The preliminary design of the 500t/d float glass production line, a joint venture between the French Saint-Gobain Glass Company and the Jiangsu Donghai Glass Plant, was reviewed on April 28, 1997 in the East China Sea through national and international experts organized by the National Building Material Bureau. The project will implement major technical transformation on the existing backward six-machine no-trough lead-in line of Donghai Glass Factory. After the feasibility study report was approved by the State Economic and Trade Commission, the Nb Glass Industrial Design Institute of the State Building Materials Bureau was commissioned by Dongsheng Company in January this year to undertake the preliminary design transformation task according to the main process design plan of Saint-Gobain in France. The design shows that the production line has a total investment of 88.69 million yuan (equivalent to 106.9 million US dollars), registered capital of 63 million US dollars; daily melting capacity of 500 tons, annual production of 2 to 12 mm float glass 2.7 million weight boxes; annual average sales income of 440 million yuan , paid taxes 5700
