清末,列强的掠夺、清政府的盘剥及自然灾害的肆虐是湖南"首应"的深层原因;同时,湖南境内民众运动形成了震荡全国的革命形势,为辛亥革命"首应"奠定了坚实的基础;此外,两湖地区紧密的革命联系、信息传递的便捷以及湖湘文化的熏染在湖南"首应"中也起到了不可忽视的重要作用.
