Taiwan’s first “modern” Hakka dialect “1895” tells the story of the defeat of the Qing court in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the concession of Taiwan to Japan and the Japanese occupation of Taiwan in the early days. Hakka dialect is an important organic part of the film and an aesthetic highlight of the film. It is an invisible carrier and a distinctive hallmark of the film on which the “regional texture” and local customs and practices are reflected.
