Objective To study the differences of mental health and personality between poor and non-poor college students. Methods The SCL-90, EPPS and MMPI were used to evaluate the differences and to test the differences. Results The interpersonal sensitivity (t = -2.8, P <0.01), depression (t = -2.3, P <0.05), anxiety (t = -2.2, -2.4, P <0.05), fear (t = -2.7, P <0.01), and psychotic factors (t = -2.3, P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the personality factors among the poor and non-poor college students (T = -2.8, P <0.01). There was significant difference in light manic factor (t = 2.3, P <0.05) in Minnesota multiphasic personality test. Conclusion Poor students have worse mental health than non-poor students and impoverished undergraduates.
