Over 50% of the demand for refined oil in Africa has relied on imports in the past few decades, and the African oil refining industry is facing a window of opportunity for growth in the case of a serious shortage of oil refining capacity. At present, some African countries have plans or have started construction of refineries, but the scale is limited. In the short term, they will not be able to meet the growth of oil demand in the region and will continue to rely on imports. International Energy Agency (IEA) said demand for refined oil in Africa will substantially increase from the current 1.8 million barrels / day to 4 million barrels / day in 2040. The demand for diesel, kerosene and gasoline will increase by 2.7%, 2.5% and 2.5% respectively
