Objective To explore the relationship between early suicide behavior of children and adolescents and college students’ recent suicidal behaviors and to provide evidences for preventing suicide among college students. Methods A total of 10 297 students from freshman and sophomore year in three medical colleges and universities in Anhui Province were selected as research objects. The self-made questionnaire was used to investigate the history of suicidal behavior before 15 years old, the history of bad experience and the death, attempt and intention of suicide of first- and second-degree relatives History, while investigating the past 1 a suicide behavior. Results Among 10 297 college students, there were 516 (5.0%) and 63 (0.6%) attempted suicidal ideation before the age of 15 years. The number of attempted suicidal ideation and attempted suicidal in the past 1 year were 360 (3.5% ) And 33 (0.3%). Before the age of 15, the odds ratios for the association between suicide ideation history and suicide ideation and attempted suicide in the past 1 year were 4.0 (95% CI = 3.0-5.4) and 6.1 (95% CI 3.1-12.0) respectively. Suicide before the age of 15 The OR of association between attempted history and suicide ideation and attempted suicide in the past 1 year were 4.2 (95% CI = 1.4 ~ 12.5) and 114.0 (95% CI = 51.3 ~ 253.2) respectively. After adjusting for demography, relatives suicide, and ACEs, the above associations declined by more than half, but there was no statistical significance except for the correlation between the history of suicidal ideation and the attempted suicide in the past 1 years before the age of 15. Conclusion The history of early suicide behavior in children and adolescents, especially the history of attempted suicide, may be the independent risk factors of college students’ recent suicidal behavior.
