(一)西藏是喇嘛教盛行的地区。西藏的喇嘛教又分为五个教派,即:格鲁(黄教)、噶举(白教)、萨迦(花教)、本布(黑教)和宁玛(红教)。其中以格鲁(黄教)势力最大,达赖喇嘛和班禅额尔德尼即属于黄教这一教派。宁玛(红教)是从八、九世纪,以莲花生为祖师,而流传下来的。这一派的教徒都带红帽子,故称红教。现在,在西藏社会上还有相当势力。他们在西藏地区最大的寺院有二,一为 (1) Tibet is a region inhabited by Lamaism.
