This article describes an 8 mm band microwave radiometer antenna for airborne microwave remote sensing. It is a low beam antenna with high beam efficiency. A microwave radiometer is actually a high-sensitivity, low-noise receiver that draws useful information from the received incoherent (noise-like) electromagnetic radiation. Regardless of the radiation source, the nature of the radiation signal is determined by the physical properties of the object - in particular, the relationship between temperature and absorption properties and the resulting broadband radiation spectrum.
