打破碗花花又叫“野棉花”,是毛莨科銀蓮花屬中形态极相似的几种植物的統称,其中以“重庆白头翁”(Anemone japonica(Thunb)Sieb et Zuce)为最常見,主要以新鲜或晒干的地上部分为药用。該植物为多年生草本,高达70 cm;莖,叶柄,花柄均有白色軟毛,幼嫩时更为显著;莖直立,在下节处二、三分枝;根生叶具長柄,長約10—30cm,有稀疏白色之柔毛,多为三出复叶,偶有單叶;复叶的侧生小叶斜卵形,基部心形,三至五裂,每裂再作淺小裂,边沿具粗圆齿或鋸齿,中央小叶卵形,基部心形,三裂;叶上面深綠,下面淺綠,中央小叶柄長约3—6cm,为側叶柄長的二倍,莖生叶亦多为三出复叶,但柄短,長約1—3cm,其余特征如根生
