孔新苗的专著《境遇·镜像——中国美术与“国家形象”研究》,针对在新的“世界感”中,如何理解国家形象,如何有效地建构和传播国家形象,美术创作与国家形象的关系是如何被塑造、传播、解读与误读的,这一全新的当代中国美术研究课题作出的及时的学术回应。首先厘清了中国美术的现代性进程,也正是中国美术“国家形象”塑造、传播的具体语境。其次,突出了针对研究对象特点的形象研究的方法论探索,这一点构成了这一成果的重要学术价值。再者,其研究的核心要点是“文化自觉”的实践诉求、“国家形象”塑造的历史反思、中国美术现代性建设的学术反思,以新视角、新理论、新观点呈现出在特定历史境遇下不同政治力量、文化力量围绕着中国美术与国家形象建构过程的理性分析。这一新著的面世,填补了美术领域系统研究“国家形象”这一新课题的学术空白点。
