This paper describes a new measurement system using a photoelastic converter in which the optical signals emitted are capable of accurately correlating strain, stress or load. The paper presents various devices for use with such transducers in detail, as well as the optical instruments used to read them, as well as methods for specifying optical patterns. The use of transducers enables you to derive the only magnitude or direction of stress or load that can be obtained instantaneously and without calculation. The paper also proposed in detail a combination of “stress relief ” technology, a simple method to use it to determine the rock’s internal stress state. Another “stress concentration” technique can be used to determine the stress conditions within the various components such as steel fittings or mine support. The authors believe this method is useful for daily inspection of mine support issues and is also valuable as a research tool in stress and strain analysis.
