Although there is no doubt about the importance of the writer Ding Ling in the history of Chinese novels for centuries, how to assess the artistic achievement of her novels in a concrete way still depends on her wisdom. Starting from the perspective of marginal poetics, this article begins with a retrospect of Ding Ling ’s novel practice by means of text / case analysis and analyzes the inherent conflict between the “grand vision” of revolution and the “small pattern” of women in his works. Although Ding’s reputation as a famous author comes mainly from the “big vision”, Ding Ling’s character as an outstanding novelist lies in the “little pattern” with unique femininity.
