“八五”期间,威海市港务管理局发挥了自身优势,抓住机遇,加大投入力度,港口规模实现了大的飞跃,已初步具备了大型化、综合型港口的雏形,有力地推进了威海地区经济的快速发展。 威海发展港口有着得天独厚的优势,把这种优势发掘出来并使之成为社会经济发展的动力,则在于人为。“八五”期间,威海港务局针对威海市经济高速发展和港口建设相对滞后的状况,集中人力,千万百计筹措资金,加快港口建设步伐。基础设施投入9000多万元,先后完成了五项建设任务;一是1991年建成了国际候船厅大楼;二是1993年建成5000吨级客运,滚装专用泊位一个;三是1993~1995年在南港区建成了万吨级、2000吨级通用泊位和500吨级工作船码头各一个;四是进行了老港区基础设施拆迁、建设和改造;五是进行港口装卸设备配套和更新改造,如购买拖轮两艘、10吨门机两台、32吨集装箱叉车一台、40吨汽车吊一台等设备40余台,大大增强了港口实力,具备了中转大港的物质基础。
