由于体育报纸较现代媒体在时效性上滞后,在传播信息量上较小,在互动性上较差,在受众范围上较小,没有边缘效应、信息检索困难,这些方面使得体育报纸处于不利的竞争地位。但体育报纸携带方便,便于深度阅读,信息具有相对的权威性,具有保存研究价值,价格便宜等优势。当前,应当从打造体育报纸的传播特色,进行品牌塑造,增强营销能力等方面,积极进行市场拓展。
