At present, there are two kinds of satellite systems abroad that can transmit environmental data such as ocean and meteorology. One is a synchronous satellite system and the other is a polar orbit satellite system. The system of geostationary satellites consists of five satellites over 36,000 kilometers from the Earth. They are the two GOES satellites in the United States, the GMS satellites in Japan, one in the Soviet Union and METEOSAT in Europe. Since these satellites move around the Earth at a rate equal to the speed of rotation of the Earth, they are relatively at rest with the Earth. These five satellites cover most of the Earth. Geostationary satellites receive data from data collection devices located somewhere on the earth
