Objective: To investigate the effect of Pepsi Capsule on expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) in chronic stress-induced depression mice. Methods: Forty mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group, Pepsi group and fluoxetine group. In addition to the normal group, were given 21d unpredictable chronic unpredictable stress modeling. Before modeling were given distilled water, Pepsi and fluoxetine treatment. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the positive expression of BDNF and NGF in brain tissue. Results: The positive expressions of BDNF and NGF in the model group were lower than those in the normal group (P <0.05 or P <0.01). The positive expressions of BDNF and NGF in the brain of the Pepsi group were significantly higher than those in the model group (P <0.01) , But there was no significant difference between normal group and fluoxetine group (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The effect of Pepsi Capsule on chronic stress depression mice may be related to up-regulating the expression of BDNF and NGF in the brain.
