Based on the factors of production such as capital and labor force, the author takes institutional change, structural optimization and factor upgrading as the three major engines into total factor productivity and uses the quantitative economic model to measure its contribution to total factor productivity growth. The results show that the reform Since the opening up, the “three engines” have contributed 30.2%, 29.28% and 40.52% to the growth of total factor productivity, respectively, and can be divided into three phases over time. Under the new economic normal, it is imperative to increase total factor productivity from the three dimensions of institutional reform, structural optimization and factor upgrading so as to realize the transformation of old and new motives for economic growth.
